The Christmas Throwaway, R.J. Scott, Love Lane Books
Christmas is a time for giving - what do you do when no one gives a damn?

For Zachary Weston Christmas means sleeping on a churchyard bench in the freezing snow with nothing better in his future. Thrown out of his home for being gay, he is left without money or, it seems, anywhere to go.

Until a stranger shows him that some people do give a lot more than a damn.

Ben Hamilton is a rookie cop in his small home town. He finds a young throwaway, fresh from the city, sleeping on a bench in the churchyard on a snowy Christmas Eve. Can he be the one to give Zachary his own Christmas miracle?

REVIEW:

I love Christmas!! Yes, we are all busy (extremely busy) trying to make it special for our families and friends.  We all do it AND that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for reading. To keep me in my happy mood, I always look for a new Christmas story to read.  With all the choices out there it can be pretty tough to make that call! Scrolling through the lists and lists of Christmas stories the cover of The Christmas Throwaway catches my eye and then I see it is by RJ Scott and BAM you have a winner! I hit the button for the purchase and say my little “please don’t let me down I don’t have a lot of time and need a good book” prayer. Don’t laugh we all say that one!!!
Prayer answered – read it in two days and smiled the whole time! OK you local people – no lie, I am reading this book and as it states young Zach is beaten and thrown out of his house by his homophobic father (get some tissues because it wouldn’t be a great Christmas story without a little bit of tears).  He uses the little money he has to get as far away as possible, which isn’t that far, and lands somewhere between Harrisonburg and Charlottesville. Yes she even mentions Shenandoah Valley!!!!! I read the paragraph five times because well... he is in a small town that might as well been mine and I am loving it. WOW in all the reading that I do, this is the first time that an author has the setting that close to my own town.  So needless to say, the setting is the best in the worldJ! The book is only around130 pages so the plot progresses fast.  It is Christmas Eve when Ben finds Zach and takes him home.  There are ups and downs that you are just going to have to read for yourself because I don’t want to ruin the story for you. I will tell you that the plot is believable. I know people in my town that would do just what the Hamilton’s did for Zach.
The story is everything that I wanted in my Christmas read.  Good people that do good things – nothing over the top – nothing unbelievable just a simple story about an act of kindness from a wonderful family. Huge kudos to RJ for keeping it real – this is a Christmas story first and foremost– not an erotic romance.  The romance comes much later in the story but well worth the wait. If you believe there are good people in the world and you want to read a Christmas story that just leaves you with a happy feeling in your heart then I strongly suggest that you pick RJ Scott’s The Christmas Throwaway – 5 chocolate dipped strawberries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
